You can change the root password on ESX Server but it takes two reboots:
Power onReboot the ESX host and at the first menu, press ‘a’.
Then at the prompt type ’single’
The ESX host will boot to a # prompt.
Type ‘passwd’ and enter a new password for root.
Type ‘reboot’.
I don’t think it is possible.
You have to reinstall Linux again.
Login as a root
Open the console
type passwd
you will be asked for old password
And then for new password twice
Do those correctly
Now Enjoy, your root password is changed.
As root type passwd in a console.
