Rootkits, by themselves, are not malicious. It’s what they are hiding that you have to be concerned with. But they are not good either. If a hacker knows you have a pre-installed rootkit from a ligit company (symantec was using them in their products, but after the Sony rootkit, they quickly go rid of them)or from another hacker, the hacker can acess your computer and see anything and everything you do without your knowledge.
