Can Two People Use A Computer At The Same Time?

I know it sounds silly, and a very beginner question, but i had someone ask me recently if her and her partner can use the same PC at the same time. I started to think about this, the keyboard, monitor and mouse can be solved with KVM switches, but how can i get two mouse cursors on the screen (even if they were using seperate virtual machine boxes)
Can you get two mouse cursors on a screen to work in tandom? A plugin? An application?
Is there anyway to do this on a PC?

  1. Yes, you need thin client hardware.
The hardware just remote desktops into the computer and emulates the other computer. This is an extension of the old idea of dumb terminals.

yes, it is possible, but not really practical.
can can use KVM Switch and plug 2 keyboards and mouses and monitors. However, its very old technology.

Interesting idea, but no…and I don’t see why anyone would want to. Computers are too affordable now, for 2 people to have the need to share one at the same time.

While you may be able to remote into a computer and watch what the other person is doing, and even help them out by moving the mouse or typing for them, you can not each be working in different programs at the same time. You only have one cursor between you. So no, your friend can not be surfing the Internet in one screen while her mother is typing a document in another. (Would you really want your parent watching that closely what you are doing? My kids won’t. LOL)

i didn’t know that you could do that, but why would you want to do that though, but anyways they would have to ask a PC person that question, i found this just for you:http://www.justanswer.com/Computer-Infor

There is a company that sells a hardware device that allows you to hook up another Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor to a PC to allow two users to work simultaneously. I have seen this advertised but cannot find the link in question, they may be out of business. IMO unless the PC in question is a very fast PC with lots of ram I imagine the performance would be quite dismal. Also, by the time you buy another keyboard, mouse, monitor AND pay for the hardware device you could probably spend just a little more and get a whole seperate computer.

Its not very practicable. The point is that it is a Personal Computer – i.e. everything a person needs. You could get a cheap second hand one and network them.
