VMWare is a virtual machine. It allows you to run an operating system inside of the OS your currently running. It would allow you to run Windows and Linux side by side at the same time. It has a few limitations though, it shares memory so if you have 1 GB total and allocate 512 MB for the VM then your main system will only have 512 MB to work with while VMWare is running. Also your 3D graphics won’t work inside the VM because it emulates low end hardware to avoid conflicts. Here is their site with more info.http://www.vmware.com/
It is a great program for trying new OS’s before committing to them or running a Linux server but wanting to keep Window or Mac as your primary desktop. Also if you have Linux its a great way to run some windows programs that won’t run in Wine
