Okay, I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit.
On boot up it uses about 1GB of RAM- as does most computers.
But after running Virtualbox running TinyXP (for testing rogue software etc.) for about 4-5 hours, the RAM used by Vista drops to about 500MB ??? =O
The same amount of processes are present before and after using Virtualbox – just saving 400MB RAM – afterwards.
This is amazing, but howcome Vista still uses 1GB RAM, where it can run on 500MB RAM?
Have you tried this, if not do.
Thanks

Vista uses RAM differently from previous versions of Windows.
It uses RAM as a cache for applications it anticipates you will use.
So when you start Virtualbox, enough cache is cleared to run it,
and when you exit, that RAM becomes available.
This article explains it better than I can:http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window
thats probably your virtual machine is using the other 500MB of RAM, it is better if your main OS is able to use more memory as it will run faster
