If You Could Choose Between Reality And Living The Perfect Virtual Life, Which Would You Choose?

Let’s say you could be hooked up to a virtual reality machine that would enable you to live the perfect life. Your life could be exactly how you wish it to be. You could even manipulate controlling every aspect of it or controlling very little of it, thus allowing for unpredictability. There would be no distinguishable differences between reality and V.R. – the only difference would be that it’s virtual. There is one more option – you could choose to forget that you ever lived in the real world, so you’d think V.R. is actual reality. Would you choose V.R.?

Erm what do you mean ‘IF’, I thought this was a virtual life!!! Arghhhh nooooooooo, that means I have to take responsibility for my own actions. Reality is too heavy to deal with. Ooooohhh that’s better, back in my own little world…..hello little pink rabbit…..hello big blue elephant…………….

VR, anything is better then reality life. I would rather sleep then be awake. pathetic isn’t it. real life sucks and there is not a darn thing that can be done about it except accept it and endure to the end, pain, heartache and dealing with stupid people. After all at least 50% of the population is below average in intelligence.

Its an attractive though, perfect world. I prefer truth and thats my search in life. I’m still trying to figure out the purpose of this life. Perhaps I would be more swayed to the perfect VR if my life was more miserable, but it isn’t. Its good enough that I want to live the real life for sure. I don’t think I believe in taking the easy route like that. To be honest I think our defining moments are often our most tragic ones. It is for this reason(although it seems crazy) that I’ve purposely put myself in difficult positions, just to see how well I could handle it and what I could learn and improve upon from it. I think that humans need the full gamut of emotions in order to be truly content. The perfect VR world just doesn’t appeal to me.

I would like to choose reality. Science has made man to lead his life idle not ideal. He was living without machines or science long back. He was healthy, attractive and had less diseases. Now machines made the man to sit idle. There were not Television, VCD and Computers. But he used to listen to news on Radio, Newspapers. Now a days, we are depending completely on Machines. That is why we are suffering from number of diseases, which can not be curable.

ignorance is bliss. and if u really think about it the way you explained V.R. its pretty much the same thing as reality when u learn how to live life with focus and determination. your perfect life exists in reality if u believe in your own powers as the super-sperm that u came to be.reality all the way baby!!!!!

This is similar to a question Robert Nozick asks in “The Experience Machine,” and my answer will be similar to his (though probably not based on the the same underlying philosophy… I don’t agree with Nozick on just about anything except this point, I think).
No, I’d choose reality over VR; no matter how much virtual reality could *seem* like reality — and in a sense would become reality for me, subjectively — there’s something really disturbing about being just hooked up to a machine instead of living a real life. The machine gives subjective experiences, but nothing else, nothing genuine, and I would actually like to *be* something, and *do* something, real. And do it myself, rather than choosing a life in advance to simply live out — or rather not even live out, technically, because where’s the *living* in such a scenario? (whether the VR machine were programmed to be unpredictable or not amounts to about the same thing in my opinion, although I think that’s an interesting detail to add, and might make a difference for some people).
    Cool question!

reality. It is the truth. And knowing that you are living a faux world would ruin the experience. People you interact with in VR would not be true. Sex in VR may feel gud, but…its not actually sex…which would be kinda…icky if you think too hard on it. thatd be sad if someone couldnt tell the difference. I would probably enjoy VR better when im in my late 80s to 90s. hopefully

  14. Perfect Virtual Reality sounds fun but i will still stick to reality.Well hun, when u lived in virtual world,u feel perfect,u did perfect but too bad it’s only a program to make u feel so.No one will go against your will and actually is the perfect of the imperfect !!In reality, life is sometime harsh and cruel but these are the REALITY of life!!When we fall,we learnt.when we are hurted,we learnt that it’s bad to hurted others so we love.it’s the beauty of reality when we truly know how to appreciate and care for other.u will still able to choose the way u wanna ur life to be.u have choices and freewill.in VR,u onli follow the pre-programmed logic of a system.u don’t really have a life.u just live in other people perfect DREAMS !! and let those who operate the system to play GOD in ur sweet dream…Now,how scary is that??

Hmmm! a good question; VR sounds wonderful – imagine that, doing exactly what, when, how, why etc. you wanted to do, hmmm! Total control of your own environment, hmmm!
Good for a holiday maybe, but forever? Nah, couldn’t imagine a more boring existence. Real life is much, much more interesting and challenging, which is what I believe people thrive on – at least this particular portion of people. Happy easter/holidays to you & yours. Cheers.

    Lady, I just don’t know.
    I mean, I TRULY don’t know.
I think I would pick the real world… but I would be so HORRIBLY tempted by the virtual world it would be ridiculous. I mean, everything would be so nice and agreeable… and love would be returned. Bah! But, alas, I am indeed a realist at heart. Without the downside, there can be no upside.
It’s just the way it is.

You wouldn’t want to because you would know, deep down, that it wasn’t real. It would be pointless. You would spiral downwards into depression and turn into a selfish monster.

For me, I would prefer to go in and out. No collectors harrassing, no ongoing pain. Reality, is however, reality, and the grass is always greener. Much to be said about experiencing the bad to appreciate the good.

A dear friend of mine died very very slowly and in much pain. VR would have been a blessing for him and all of us his last 3 months. Would any of you take a terminal life of cancer over a VR of a healthy muscular body, beautiful people, clean pure air instead of oxygen tanks?
