A virtual machine is a nice sandbox to run things you think may be malware or other “bad” applications / websites.
The only way it can get onto your “main” pc (host) is through the network adapter in VMWare. Turn this off if you want to be a bit more secure. Of course install a virus checker in the VM too.
No,it won’t hurt the OS, provided that you do not share files or have the VM set up with a share on your network.
It will not hurt it directly but once your virtual machine is infected it is on the same network so it will most likely try to infect your main OS. It will have a harder time but it is possible.
Overall its not a bad idea if you must go to those sites.
Here’s the thing.
A virtual operating system like vmware is great for people like myself who analyze hacked machines and such… and if you are working with potential viruses then its great to have a VM because you are not infecting your main OS, or your main documents, or your main programs…
But YOU are wanting to browse the web to these sites and are still hoping that your infected VM will somehow prevent access to your banking and other account info… but if you are going to your banks website via an infected machine you are doing the EXACT SAME THING as from a regular infected machine. So in your case it is no solution… unless you are ONLY using the VM to browse those “bad” sitez and not checking your email or doing anything that gives away a password, etc…
My advice to you would be to browse in a safer way and use more common sense… I’ve been doing the same things for over 17 years and rarely ever have had an infection. Why? Because I use a proper security suite and I don’t get f*”ed up warez. The good stuff is never infected. and FYI really smart to post your illegal activities on a public web board…
Good Luck
